I think Reikan calls it "semi-automatic" testing.... basically, you set up the targets and whatnot... tell it to start the test:

It fires a shot at 0MA then prompts you to set to +10MA, then fires a shot. Then tells you to set to +20MA, then it fires a shot. Then tells you to set -10MA... and so on so on.

So.. all of the MA adjustments, you have to make. Both during the testing, and for the final value.

Yes, exactly. It's a pain in the ass. It's still good, just a pain in the ass. ;)

I would love to use FoCal, unfortunately the software is pretty poor and i cant get it to stay running for more than a few mins.
As soon as it has to do anything with my 5D MKII it crashes.

Very disappointed and will be asking for a full refund.

Really? Have you tried removing it from the computer and re-installing, Im sure if you gave it some effort to find out why its not working for long would surely be better than just asking for a refund, Ive used it numerous times with no issues at all.

Yep. removed it, re boot and re installed it twice. Run as Admin, run in compatibility mode etc.
Canon EOS utility works fine so i know communication is ok. In fact the program does find the target but then stops working.
Thing is i dont have any lens issues, it was just something i wanted to try out tonight as ive had it for a good few weeks now.
Im happy to be told why its not working, but with no actual error code or message i dont see why i need to spend any more time messing with it, or my PC.
I have emailed them and if they come back with some suggestions im happy to try them, as long as its nothing that will make my PC unstable.

id10t. No, ive not tried that although i do know about it. As ive just said, im not in need of MFA as far as i can see (the moire test seems to confirm this), but after paying for software that i cant get working im not happy.

It is very strange when people blame software that runs perfectly well on thousands of other PCs and cannot even contemplate the merest whiff of a possibility of it being their PC that is the cause of the problem.

It is strange, but then im the one sitting in front of my PC with the issue, not you.
Unless someone can prove its my PC then i see no option other than to request my money back. My PC meets the minimum spec, is fully up to date so ive done my part to ensure it works.

This is from the Reikan website
"Windows 8 is now officially supported but we continue to conduct further testing". So, yeah, i guess its probably my PC ;-)a.

There is another thread about the software not working on here IIR, so im not the only one, and id like to know what piece of popular software doesn't have any bugs in it (and yes, im including the OS in that).

Well it seems like there is a new version (1.8.1) due out by the end of this week. Ill wait and see if that is any better.
One other thing ive noticed is that my version (1.8.0) doesn't have TurboCal listed in the tools section, it still has QuckCal. I thought this was gone in version 1.8.

Just a quick question...in the setup of Focal are you specifying JPG or RAW under settings/test/image capture mode? It hangs for me unless I'm using JPG. Reikan has been looking into the situation for a week or so...

Very Interesting Post, and my latest batch of photos taken on a clear days sky, with my 30d/55-250IS that In my opinion are just off the mark, could my lens be backfocusing? and If so what can I do to adjust It?

Thanks. I didn't change the setting for image capture. Ill give that a go but the programme never got far enough to start any tests, it was always during target set up or just after.

I think the newer versions default to RAW and it comes into play while analysing the focus.

Ill have a look tonight anyway. I also need ot check out why im not getting TurboCal. I posted on Reikan's face book page and was told to check to see if its enabled in Settings, so thats something else to look for.
Maybe i can get TurboCal working if nothing else.

I was a bit "annoyed" last night so im going to back off getting the refund until ive tried the next version, but seeing as there are others having issues, and Reikan themselves admit its not perfect under Windows 8 i might not have any choice but to request a refund if i cant get it working.

It is very "finicky" software to say the least...
