Google this part number and tell me that the Dust Donut is unreasonably priced...

YA2-3463-000

I didn't actually find anything with pricing save one amazon seller listing it as 35UKP, but I found this, which does tell me the dust donut is overpriced:

Canon parts listed the rubber mount costing $12 with $6 ship.

And yes, the rubber mount is the gasket.

True water and dust can get in when you're changing the lens, but I almost always use a rocket blower and/or brush to remove any debris before changing a lens. It's also true that other parts of the lens may not be sealed, but every little bit of sealing helps.

I understand why he needs to charge $24.99...start up costs are high. But I do know that if he's successful, and the price gets down to $15, I will buy one for every lens I own that doesn't have a seal. It's worth it to me.

I also don't consider this spam either. He's a fellow photographer that's come up with a great idea that may be beneficial to us all. I welcome threads like this as long as they are photography related.

Actually when it comes to start up products on Kickstarter, the price of the item is the lowest and won't drop in price after its successful. This is to entice early adopters to help kickstart the project. All the items I've seen from Kickstarter are higher in price after the Kickstarter campaign has ended. Some even list the retail price which is typically $5-10 more than what the pledge is on Kickstarter.

Who is the engineer for this? People, that silly seal won't protect your lens from the weather elements because the zoom and focusing rings aren't sealed, duh... And the buttons too. Oh, can water get through from the front element? Duh....

I think it's more of protecting it from entering into the camera and sensor. It says "Add a weather seal to the mount of any DSLR Lens"

Hence the word...mount. It didn't say "weather seal any DSLR Lens"

What this seal will do is help prevent dust, dirt and water from building up around the area where the lens attaches to the camera. All its meant to do is help out, we all know that most lenses are not sealed, but every little bit helps. If you are working in a particularly dusty area, you should blow your lens and camera off before swapping lenses. Sometimes we do that, sometimes we forget. This seal will help out in that respect. I have no affiliation with the original poster, but I think its a good idea and every little bit helps to try and keep that stuff off your sensor.

It could but you would probably have to remove the original weather seal first.

From what I read somewhere else on the forum, you have to remove the mount to replace the Canon seal. It's available as a part from Canon and might even be cheaper from some sources than the Dust Donut. I don't think the process was overly complicated.

Looks like the first post was removed... I can here to do research before pledging and I'm sure many others will as well. Here is the link to the kickstarters page:

Hope this helps others.

If it becomes interesting enough to them we'll probably have Chinese factories pumping them out by the truckload at 99 cents each. Maybe even multiples for 99 cents each.
