Our first son is due to be born on Feb 14th (doesn't get me out of buying a Valentines Day present!), we already have 2 girls but this feels like a whole new experience with it being a boy!

I will obviously be taking the camera with me, but I just wondered if anyone has any hospital shots they've actually taken while their partner was in labor and soon after the baby is born?
Or if anyone has any creative ideas that don't require much setting up that I could have a go at myself?

Thanks,
Jay

Well as a new dad ( 32days ago ) I had my camera on me in the labour ward, and I only took snapshots. They will be treasure as much as anything I've ever taken. I took my G11 and my phone ( galaxy s3 ) and between them I got my memories. Setting up lights etc was never going to be an option. :)
Did you take any pics of your little girls in the same vane ? ? ?
EDIT
Good luck to you and your wife, I hope all goes well for you........

As a father of 5 I would say just bring the camera and take snapshots, good one though :) Don't worry about being creative, that can wait until the baby is home and you have more control of the environment.

I always had my camera with me in the delivery suite but the first pictures were taken after the child was taken and cleaned up, usually just a few minutes.

Enjoy the birth and I hope everything goes well for you both :)

Caveat...
I tried looking for my original hi res photos. No avail. So I downloaded these from my facebook account. They are the low res .5mb versions...but you get the idea.
Taken with my Pentax K5 and 43mm 1.9 Probably iso 6400 or more. That camera was awesome.

My doctor was yelling at me that I didn't start taking the pics soon enough. I wish I did. This was my second time doing this. First time I brought all my gear (flashes, stands etc...) I wish I did the same with my 2nd.

Soon after birth...

I guess they are a little graphic.I wouldn't have posted them but he asked if its been done. Apologies. I asked the same questions before my 2 boys were born. I wanted to see if this was done before too.

Gang....I appreciate you posting. My wife is due in June with our first child and I had no clue as to what to shoot. I love the making of the foot prints. Really helped me out a lot!
