Wow when I got my XT a week ago I shot RAWs since I have CS2 and everyone does RAW and I edit in Photoshop a lot. But then I shot 500 RAWs and they didn't load up. I was soooo mad. Then i read a post about needing to go to Adobe and downloading Camera Raw 3.3 Beta. And now they load and OMG. So much i could of done, more than the dumb jpegs i had.. AHHH that makes me mad. I've done nature, landscape, and a wedding in jpegs this week. Meh i'm need a drink of water now.. And the options in RAW, I love it.. I'm more sad now.

Just shoot your JPG properly and you don't need RAW :p

very well said!

RAW is my "safty net" when im shooting. Goal is always to get it right the first time, but just incase =)

The other advantage i see of raw is that if you process the JPG or TIFF files from raw, you can also get better print quality.

I didn't say I shoot JPG... I shoot RAW 99% of the time, and always for commercial work. yes, RAW can give you better print quality, if you know what you're doing.

I shoot a lot on hockey games. In one arena lighting is a big issue. I can work around the amount of light and get a correct exposed jpeg as Tim suggested but my main problem is with colors. Forest green on the player jerseys show up as blue. I've tried adjusting the color balance in the camera (20D), did a white balance using a grey card as well as using the ice surface. Nothing helps. This leaves me with no other option than to post-process in CS2. I can adjust the colors somewhat by working within the selective color option but the green in the jerseys turn out blotchy looking. Almost like die ran in the colors. If I shoot in RAW and play with the hue and saturation under the calibrate tab, the color adjustments are much smoother and have saved my neck when processing team photos. I have one experiment to try yet and that is with flash. I generally shoot all hockey photos, including team photos without the use of flash.
