I am trying to get my 580 ex II to act as a slave, using my whitelightning as the main. It is easy to change the settings on the 580 (hold down zoom) set to slave, and then switch to M mode. but it will not fire!

Any ideas why? Am I missing something?

Thanks
JEFF

It's simple. A White Lightning (or any other monolight, for that matter) cannot act as a master for any Speedlite. You would have to adapt an optical slave to the Speedlite and it would ONLY operate in fully manual mode.

Doesn't work that way.....
You need to purchase an optical slave like this:

To use the 580exII in that mode you would need another canon flash capable of serving as a master or a controller of some sort like the St-e2 or built in controller on some newer cameras. Its not a simple optical slave.
