ok. This is exactly why I created the thread in the first place.

I am really scared of it spreading to my other lenses if it's really fungus.

It's very hard to tell to be sure...:(

So tell me your verdict...

I swear I'd probably commit suicide if it spreads to my other lenses in my signature...;)

It's not that hard to tell. Fungus is mold. It looks like moldy bread with little spider web leg things. That's just random little fuzzies.

Nup...
Definitely not fungus.
Just dust and lint.

All my lenses are full of it...

Mate, the conditions in most parts of Australia, including Sydney are generally too dry for fungus to be an issue.
Unless you've been keeping your gear for a prolonged period of time in a damp bag or in your shadehouse, it is highly unlikely that you will ever develop fungus.
However, if you've been up around Cape York for a couple of months in the middle of the wet season, that might be a different story, althoght still a slim chance.
But, if you're convinced that it's fungus, take it out to Canon at North Ryde spend the $50 and see what they say, which will be it's just dust.

This is lens fungus...what you have is dust.

Thanks Phil. I actually live in Marsfield, 5 mins away from the Canon Office.

I've seen picture like the one you posted, but mine really looks like an early sign of fungus. I guess the picture you posted is like the final, dying stage?

Btw, I do have another lens which is 110% fungus, do you have any idea how much Canon charges for a clean?

Using your picture, it has just the one spot I circled on the front element - http://dl.dropbox.com …18/133953539.amsItOgW.jpg (external link)

Nup, wouldn't have a clue.
According to their website, there's a $50 fee to look at it.
Why don't you just drive the 5 minutes to North Ryde or pick up the phone and ask them yourself...

To avoid fungus, I just put a few small packets of silica gel (those 'do not eat' things that come with countless products). One little packet in each lens bag is usually enough to ward any fungal spirit off, in case it ever gets humid. After 8 years in home storage one of my Minolta MD lenses got fungus, which is why I started this practice in the first place...plus it's free.

This will only work if you store them in an air tight container and recharge the silica pack each time you open it.
