I am an award winning experienced photographer and I don't want to hear its the operator on this issue. I have had the 7d for a little under a year and I have gotten more keepers from my 20D. The focusing system simply does not operate correctly. Anyone send theirs back or had any setting changes that i'm not aware of?

Thanks,
Daniel Kucin Jr.

I have never owned a 20d however, I have no complaints about the keeper rate from my 7D. With you credentials, there must be some sort of malfunction with your particular camera body. Have you considered sending you 7D in for service?

Daniel - can you define the types of situations where you have focus problems? I would expect some types of situations would be more prone to problems than others.

Have you searched on the micro adjusting feature and printed out a focus chart to see where things are at with each lens? Is the issue with multiple lenses or just one lens on the 7D? Which focus modes are you using?

I sent mine in and there was a noticeable difference IMO. Service adjusted the focus assembly and did some electrical adjustments. I'll probably get raked over the coals for mentioning this but I had all of them from the 20D to the 7D and all 3 5D series. I was not bad, I just could not get the crisp shots I was used to getting on other bodies.

I sent it in because I did not want to MA my body to all my lenses. My 300L F4 IS is sharp as a razor without MA and is my test lens when I get a new body.

There have been a number of people here who have experienced focusing problems and who have sent the camera in and been happy with the results.

So, assuming you have tested properly and checked out the MA reasonably, I'd just follow the advice below:

I am having trouble indoors with iso's around 1600 to 3200. If I didn't have my mark II 1D with me I would have been screwed.

What's the maximum aperture of the lens(es) that you're using in that situation?

Can you describe, or better yet show us, the types of results you're getting that are problematic? Are they really out of focus or just....smudged?

When I first got my 7D, the results that came out, even when focus hit sort of looked like there was a very thin film across them. I sent it in Canon and got it fixed; haven't had a problem with my keeper rate since. It's done nothing but climb.

Here is one from tonight

Please do three things.

First, include all of the EXIF data with the images. If you're doing a "save for web" in Photoshop, that strips the EXIF data out and we cannot analyze it.

Secondly, please point out what you are seeing as a problem.

Thirdly, post a 100% crop (in addition to the whole image) of the area that you see a problem in. The small image is very difficult to analyze for some kinds of problems.

What exposure measurement mode were you using? The fellas on the mat were underexposed.

I'm not a photoshop master i'm just a photographer lol. I shot it in shutter priority with a shutter speed of 800, and my iso set to auto with a cap on it to only go to 3200.

I usually don't like using the auto iso, but I wanted to see if it would help the issues i'm getting. Do you see how degraded the image is? The whole image is soft like it has a blurry glaze on it.
