Well last week was long, cold and rather disappointing. Covering the Denver Broncos for NFL Network I did get to use the Christmas gift my wife bought me, a GoPro Hero2 Outdoor Edition. I quickly bought some extra attachments, WiFi bac pac and Pelican case and I was off using it while I working. I'm sure I can use this on other jobs and charge for it just like the 7D!

A unique look at what happens when Payton Manning speaks at his weekly presser and then the start of a very long, cold and disappointing AFC Divisional Playoff game.

:-) Great job - I saw it here first :-) I wouldn't be surprised if such footage, or similar, starts sneaking into more interviews, its a great cut away for almost no effort.

I love my Hero 2 and the WiFi back makes such a difference with functionality. On my frequent trips across Britain to Wales I now tend to leave the Canon in Essex and just take the GoPro and Tascam. It's great for shots down on the beach, on the cliffs and the like. It goes in my pocket and I don't have to worry about it getting wet (which happens a lot in Wales).

Yep, I saw quite a few folks at CES doing this to get over the crowds.

The big problem is that during the Payton Manning gang bang, I couldn't even see Manning or the relationship between the mic (Sennhieser 416) and the top of Manning's head without standing on my tip toes. He's 6'4'! I had to boom over the top of all the camera ops using step ladders to get over the front row of cameras. hell, even the print reporters are starting to bring and use step ladders. So finding a spot to slide the boom pole through and not hit Manning in the head with the mic is all important. That's why the footy of him at times is a bit shakey. Then of course I also have to get the reporters questions with the boom mic. And answer out of context just sucks so the questions are important.

I was surprised that the GoPro internal mic with the fully enclosed case could hear enough of the answers so I could sync the two audio tracks. I used my Sound Devices 552 internal recorder to get the real sound.

I wish I could, but I don't own a 400 f2.8 and I was doing sound not shooting the game. During the game I was safely and warmly tucked away in the press box area at the stadium where the free food and drinks are. HA!

It was so freaking cold. At 5am when we arrived at the stadium it was only 2 degrees F. It only got to 18 degrees F later that day as a high.
