This just happened today. I tried three different cables. The EOS Utility will not enable the Remote Shooting function. HELP!

Does it recognize the camera at all?

When plugged in, the USB cable seems to have a signficant amount of play to it. The HDMI port still works though.

I've tried different cables (all verified to work with other devices) and I tried both my PC and laptop. Still no communication with the 5DM2.

Thinking about taking a 1 hour drive to Jamesburg tomorrow to drop it off for repair. That should save me the time of packaging it up correctly, insuring, cost to ship it, and transit time. Would something like this be under warranty? I got the body last April.

Wait... before you send it off, it might be the computer with a problem instead of the camera. Have you updated to the latest version of EOS Utilities?

My laptop worked last week tethered. Its not like I'm trying it for the first time.

I didn't mean to imply that.:)...Just wondered if you had the latest version.

If the camera worked with the laptop a short time ago, I guess that it's possible that something has happened to the USB socket in the camera. I don't know how to help with that except to say that maybe it is time to send it in for repair.:(...Maybe someone else will have some ideas.

Oddly enough, I ran into this same issue with EOS Utility a while back. It just quit working. I just grabbed my tablet and used it, but I still haven't gotten the Eos Utility issue resolved. :(

Well last week I finally decided to send it in for warranty repair (which expires next month thankfully) and Canon replaced the USB component free of charge. I just got it back today and it works like its supposed to.

They even sent me a neat USB protector to use when tethering along with installation instructions. I wish I knew about this handy little gadget before I ran into my problem.

Does anyone know of any other EOS bodies susceptible to USB port malfunctions like the 5DM2 is? Have improvements been made in newer bodies to prevent the damage that I incurred?

Yes, please post a pic of that "USB protector", coeng. If you can't post a pic, a good description or a link to more detailed info would be most appreciated!
