So I got my welcome to CPS kit yesterday and was really impressed with the lens book. I couldn't ever see myself reading something like this, but there is a wealth of information there.

Anyway, I have a question about sending in something for repair or a clean and check. Their form has an area where they want you to authorize repairs up to $450 when you send in a lens for repair. However, if I use a clean and check coupon on a 70-200 2.8 IS I have and it needs repair will they do the work automatically or will they contact me with a quote?

Also, what does a clean and check entail for a lens? Will they mount on a camera and check for focus and adjust as necessary?

I will assume you have GOLD level;
then you can use the repair form (also available as download) and ask for an estimate.
If the lens is under warranty, I will assume the repair will be done with no charge.
Don't expect they will clean interior dust - but they will check and clean contacts, switches, and overall functionality. IF there are others issues, they will contact you.
DO write that in case of needed repair, you want to be contacted with quote.
Then you can decide if you want it done while paying for it. You have a discount for it too, btw.
Contact then directly by email or phone for the AF adjustment.
READ the FAQ in the CPS website, and detailed summary for each level too.
IMHO, using the coupons for the body only makes more sense, but if you have an extra one, then go ahead and use it for the lens.

as a final note:
I send my %dmk2 for sensor cleaning last week - GOLD membership, but used all my coupons, so, just the shipping label as sent. The sensor & chamber, along with focusing screen and the superimposed indicator plate needed a deep dust cleaning. CPS did it all, replacing plate and screen with no charge, altought I asked to be quoted of total cost for extra cleaning and replacements if needed - did not supply CC info.

Happy with CPS, and will keep my membership :cool:
