I'm an all prime shooter myself, but I will fully admit that the 24-105 is an incredibly versatile lens on a full frame camera. I like taking the 28 IS with the 40mm STM as a small walk around kit, seems to work well for me.
My thoughts exactly. I have the 24-105, and love it for the reasons you mention. I have just purchased the 28 IS USM about an hour ago, to compliment the 40mm pancake, to use exactly as you described -a very light and compact walkaround setup. With fantastic image quality capability. One lens on the camera, one in your pocket, and you're set. Especially combined with my 6D. No more bulky than the likes of a 60 or 70D, buth with killer low light ability. I bought the 28 over the 24 mainly due to a bit less distortion at the edges of the frame. I think I love wandering around bike and car shows, and looking at the exif, most of my shots are at 28mm or around the 40-45mm focal length. Close enough for me Can't wait 'till the next show.
