Hi everyone, I decided to do something a little different with my wife and 6 month old, I don't usually submit pics of my family (becuase I don't like people saying nasty things about them) but I wan't to know what you think.
I've done a fair bit of PP and this is what my wife likes, over exposed, high contrast "instagram" effect.
I have the pleasure of having a 10 foot high block wall on my new property that is going to serve me well when it comes to portrates I think

Personally, I don't like the instagram effect. I think her tastes may change as the years pass and she will wish she had the details that are lost in the shadows and blown highlights.

Doesn't work for me.

Can't really see the baby's face on either photo. The first one seems like your wife looks upset or something but can't really tell. The composition on the second is somewhat odd to me. Are you trying to capture the interaction of mother and child, or just snapping away? The grunge look may be good for like a rock band or something, but in this case, I don't think it's working for female family members. Maybe of boys in the mud or something rough. That's just me though, if your wife likes it then it's all good.

Thanks for the feedback, pretty much what I expected.
I've got about 1000 traditional baby photos that will go in the archives, or be printed and put in a frame on the wall, these were somthing a little more "unusual" I guess, shots where I used a bit of creativity as opposed to copying what i've seen a million times before, the blown out highlights and underexposed areas are all products of PP so the RAW files are still intact.

When I captured the first image I liked the way my wife had a weird look on her face and my daughter isn't too fussed about looking at the camera(an image of their personalities)
The second image was posed, I said "hold Isla above your head" my wife was like "what" and I took the photo.
I can totally understand why people would think the processing/effect is too harsh for female family members and the composition is odd but funnily enough, take aside the Photo Forum feed back and these are the types of pics that I get the most positive feedback from friends and family on Facebook.

I appreciate the feedback.
