Hello, I have a Canon Rebel T3 and I take photos at our local dirt track. This camera takes amazing photos during the daylight but when the sun goes down and the track lights come on not so amazing. What is a setting I could do to get clearer shots at night without using the flash? (drivers get a little upset with camera flashes)

Thanks!
Dave

I shoot alot of motorsports at our local track in the evening. Once the sun is down, I am usually at about 1/250, 2.8 and iso's from 3200-8000. Our track is pretty new with decent lighting. Not sure what the lighting is like at your track?

I find these to be a reasonable compromise between getting acceptably sharp shots while still showing some wheel/motion blur to give the feeling of speed.

Of course, panning uses lower shutter speeds and lower iso's as well.

I have plenty of pictures on my site at http://www.rdalrt.com …aring-Motor-Speedway/2012 (external link)

There's no mystery: fast lens, high ISO. The same conditions apply for any low-light night available-light photography.

+1 And that applies to the next dozen posts looking for night time settings. ;)

How you apply it to YOUR particular setting is the art of photography.

Is that easy? Probably not. Would a $10,000 body and lens help? certainly.

Make do with what you have. Make it happen. :D
