Hello, I have a Canon Rebel T3 and I take photos at our local dirt track. This camera takes amazing photos during the daylight but when the sun goes down and the track lights come on not so amazing. What is a setting I could do to get clearer shots at night without using the flash? (drivers get a little upset with camera flashes)

Thanks!
Dave

Action shots right...not just pit shots? Start with f/3/5 (so that means no zooming), 1/560 for shutter speed, and play with iso until you can see what you need to. Depending on the action and how it's moving you'll likely have to up shutter speed as well.

1/560 is awfully fast. If you're shooting cars going around the track, you won't have any blur to them whatsoever, and on a T3i, I don't know that you can go high enough ISO to even get a 1/560 shot to come out properly exposed, even with good lighting conditions, I would use this as a great opportunity to practice your slow shutter panning, and try to get down into the 1/60, 1/40 times.

Unfortunately, the best "setting" would be a fast lens, such as a 70-200mm f/2.8 unit. A high ISO such as 6400 would help, but sometimes equipment does make a major difference.

Do you have the EXIF info for this shot?

If you can't fix it with a hammer you've got an electrical problem.
