I’m having trouble getting a decent image quality slideshow on dvd to play on a TV. I first used Roxio MyDVD and when played on a TV the images weren’t very sharp at all. So, looked around here and saw a lot of you use ProShow Gold, so downloaded it to try it out. Pretty much same problem, images just don’t look sharp when viewing on a TV (more than one). Images are fine viewed in Bridge (CS6) as do the prints from the same image files. I tried viewing the show on my PC and if I run the show thru Media Player in a minimized window they look better, maximize the window and sharpness suffers.
I’m guessing I’m doing something wrong somewhere or am I expecting too much? Any help or thoughts on how to get a quality slideshow to view on a TV is much appreciated.

Thanks.

This is the problem: You can optimize output for computer viewing or you can optimize for HDTV viewing, but not for both from the same video.

I put a small (but in red font) note on the disc "For Television Viewing" or "For Computer Viewing."

Normally, I optimize for television viewing--to look good on the big screen--knowing that it won't look its best full-screen on a computer. I make that decision because people are used to good big-screen and fairly poor and small YouTube viewing.

Not to appear too stupid, but where or how is that accomplished in ProShow Gold? I have enough coasters and don't need to make any more ;).

I was looking thru the help file and saw something about DVD being equal to a 0.3 MP camera. Surely, a slideshow on a TV can look better.

I went back and tried a couple of things. When previewing the slideshow in ProShow Gold it looks fine, great quality. Decided to take another look at the DVD and opened it with Windows Media Player and Roxio Cineplayer. It looked like crap. I had set it up to put a exe file on the DVD and tried running it. It opened in Photodex Presenter and looked great whether full screen or minimized screen on the PC.

This is something I'd like to start offering, but can't until I can get the results.

PS provides several options for DVD publication. You may want to make sure you have selected one of the HQ options and set the clip quality option for High Quality.

What resolution did you make the images for DVD? DVD movie resolution is 720 x 480. What kind of TV are you trying to play them on?

If it's an HD TV, that could be why they don't look great. But you can put images sized to the resolution of the TV, if it's an HD TV, and they should look fine put on a DVD. The only difference between a CD, DVD, Bluray DVD are how much storage they have essentially.
