Thank you for the replies everyone. I'm not sure which way to go right now. I can get the student/teacher price at any time, so that's not an issue. I'm just curious as to whether or not I'll take advantage of all CS6 has to offer.

Heh! You'll likely be overwhelmed at that "all", until you really get your hands on and start walking through the "essentials" (see Lynda.com for their set of "essentials" tutorials).

In time, "routine" tasks will become, well, routine, and you will be ready for new challenges...

But don't expect to want or need to take advantage of "all". Photoshop was designed for several fields, not just photo processing.

If you qualify for the s&t version and think you could use or grow into it, and can afford it, pull the trigger. at around 80% off retail thats a good enough reason there in my books. I qualify for the discount and am going to purchase just because im able to get the discount. mind you I also buy tools that are 65% off just cause there 65% off, I think I still have some tools that I have not yet used from this practice. My wife still hates me going to canadian tire for some reason?

Take the CS6 trial then sign up for the Lynda.com trial and run through the Deke McLelland Fundamentals course. It'll give you a good idea if CS6 is what you want/need.

At full PS price there are cheaper alternatives. I love PSP and that's after using PS for a few years.

At student price I would just get it, probably.

Ex-Canon shooter. Now Sony Nex.
