Looking to buy a genuine Canon LP-E6 for my 5D2. Anyways I noticed some decent prices at around 60 US on ebay. They swear up and down that they are genuine, have great feedback ratings etc. The only thing is that they are sold in "bulk" packaging or plastic bag. Why on earth would Canon distribute genuine batteries in bulk to anyone? So I am hesitant.

Betcha they're counterfeit.

IMHO the ones I like (and use) are the Wasabi's. Never had a problem with them; same capacity if not better than the Canon packs, no durability or registration issues with the camera (they are chipped.)

Agreed. The fakes look a lot like an OEM battery, and the "bulk packaging" is a gigantic red flag.

See this thread.

Save your time and get one from a reputable store.

So you're willing to pay $60 on Ebay, yet hesitant. Just order from Amazon (external link) and be assured you'll get the real deal. I don't know how things work shipping from Amazon to Canada, but Amazon.ca seems to sell them for just a few dollars more.

Unfortunately most of the 3rd party batteries that are recommended are hard to get north of the border.

Take a look at the classifieds, I'm pretty sure I saw someone selling a pair of the real deal for $70.

Wanted to do the ebay thing cause I have 30 bucks in "ebay bucks". Either way I think Ill just order the wasabi's from amazon. The reviews seem pretty good. Its pretty sad though how there is counterfeit "everything" from china these days. Hoya filters, iphone cases just to mention a few.

Yep, the ones on eBay are counterfeit. Just buy from one of the many reputable online dealers such as Adorama, B&H, etc.

I'm confused. You want to buy a suspect battery on eBay for $60, when a genuine Canon is $59 at B&H?

This is not always true. If you buy from a 3rd party through Amazon, you have no guarantee that the battery is genuine. Only if Amazon themselves fulfill the order do you stand a chance of getting a genuine one, and even then I would have some concerns. Go to B&H and buy one for $59, you will get the real thing.

Go to Adorama or B&H, and buy the real thing.

I splurged and bought two from b&h at 59 bucks each. Camera equipment is in the thousands so why bother with aftermarket battery.

That's a good price as the best I could find in Canada was $70 (for a genuine Canon battery) - currently on sale at Henry's Camera store. Note though that this latest version is made in China while all my other older Canon batteries were made in Japan. I have no idea how the made in Japan versus made in China batteries compare but Henry's has always been a reputable dealer up this way. So far so good. ;^)

NB fulfilled by amazon means nothing other than a bulk shipment comes into Amazon and they amazon ship them out. NB they just get what they are given by the 3party reseller.
If you want genuine buy direct sold and delivered by Amazon - then they will be genuine.Or get from a reputable Canon dealer. eBay no thanks no for me for something like this - just too attractive to clone , too cheap to take legal action to rectify a problem. Yet expensive enough to make some serious money on! A counterfeiters dream. :) :)
Likewise just not worth it in case it fried a decent camera and lens and a flash or remote flash trigger! With no comeback to anybody oneself.
I'd be about as likely to put some old chip fat in my AMG 63 - well it's all oil after all!

And it's time Canon helped us out by putting a USB port on the charger so the battery could be interrogated over the web and pronounce it genuine or fake! They charge enough for these basic chargers to throw it in at no cost to the consumer especially as it would bring a lot of battery sales back in house!
