In Green Bay, WI. The good was that I used hyperfocal focusing which worked well I think :) The bad was, i used flourecent white balance and everything came out pink/purple so i had to correct as best i could. kind of green though :(

i thought some of you train folks might get a kick out of these (ike train and a big boy!)

Some impressive machinery there - Love the trim on the Dwight D. Eisenhower. It looks like it has huge driver wheels, meaning that it was very fast in its day.

Certain you boys already know this but a locomotive of the same class as the Dwight D Eisenhower apparently still holds the record for the fastest speed achieved by a steam train. It was the "Mallard" which reached 126 mph in 1938.

wow that's impressive! my brother is really into the model trains. i'll have to tell him about that and maybe he'll get one. there was an HO scale ike train that the museam had and he got that. it'd be neat to have the mallard.

EDIT - oh yeah, the drive wheels on the big boy were bigger, but on the ike they were probably 5ft or just short of it.

VERY Impressive Locomotives! :D Is the one in the center of the first image meant to get power from overhead lines?
That Dwight D Eisenhower is neat. This is the first time I've seen it.

The Captain and crew finally got their stuff together, now if we can only remember where we left it.

I've been meaning to go there for a while. Was up in GB a month or so ago, but ran out of time. Nice shots.

You from GB?

If you are referring to me then yes I am from GB. Many many many years ago, about 37 I think, they stopped using steam locomotives over here. All diesel and electric since then apart from the preservation lines.
There are some great piccies on here of trains but, being old, oldish, and old fashioned, I still believe you cannot beat the sound and smell of a steam train.
I think the Mallard is in York Railway Museum.

The Mallard is indeed at the National Railway Museum, York.
Here is a photo that I took last April.

I would highly recommend, for all closet train geeks, :) a visit to York and the National Railway Museum. Also has a viewing gallery overlooking approach to York station.
I've been twice and still find something new to look at.
Last time was excursion from Kings Cross to include steam trip behind Green Arrow to Scarborough and back. Great day out.

John
