I buy a lot of random chinese stuff (lens mugs, lens caps, etc) on buyincoins.com and today I noticed they have a knockoff rapid camera strap for $8.18. Anyone want to give it a shot? The real one is probably made in china anyways.

I wouldn't use this for a 5D MKIII, but I have a 30D so I may give this a try ;) Put "fiveoff" In the recommender discount box for 5% off to lower it to $7.77

EDIT: review between the real one and the knockoff: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n21BGJgo2GE (external link)

It seems that the included plate isn't as good. However, BIC also sells the better mount for $1.61 (external link)

This strap isn't that bad. I used it for a while on both my 5D2 and 60D.

Just bought one. Will post back once I get it. I made my own DIY version of the black rapid strap so will see if this is any better.

I've got one of those I've been using for several years now... The hook on the strap broke, and the plate for the camera is garbage that gets in the way.... but I replaced both of those with BlackRapid parts, and came out of the whole deal a lot cheaper than buying a BR strap.

I buy from BIC(on their ebay store) all the time, never been disapointed! They have fun gadgets to give out as gifts.

If you don't want to wait for the item to be shipped from China I found it on amazon, it's just $2.31 more.

I live in Canada :( BIC also ships quicker than most ebay sellers (2 weeks). Here's a neoprene one someone else was talking about:

The question is do you care to have thousands of dollar worth hanging on these knockoffs? If so, then go for it.

BEWARE - or at least be AWARE!
These are good straps (I have 2 singles & 1 double) and fulfill their purpose quite nicely.

But ... unless they have changed their construction technique, the actual strap is the weak link to watch out for. Although it looks as though the strap is a continuous solid "loop" that threads through the shoulder pad, it actually ends at the front and back of the pads and is simply sewn in to the pad cover material. They use only a single stitch AND only leave about 1/4"" of the strap "sewn into" the pad. On one of my straps, this stitching is starting to fray and pull apart.
In order to really fix it, I will have to re-sew the strap and pull more of the strap under the material. Still, it is depending on the integrity of the pad cover for its overall strength. I am somewhat leery of hanging my heavier (more expensive) gear on them for too much longer.

I believe I (will) find the type that has a continuous loop of strapping to be inherently stronger and long-lasting.

Hope this helps.

Just got notification that they are out of stock and are refunding my money. Maybe I will try that Amazon link.

as photographers, I would have thought we were better than this when it came to respecting one's copyrights and not buying knock offs...
