I have been using D30's and D60's for my business which is chroma key photography. I have been using remote capture for this. It allows me to directly connect the camera to the computer and then I do not need a memory card in the camera and the picture will appear directly on the computer screen.
I have been searching for a cheaper alternative then the SLR cameras. I have bought 2 Nikon coolpix 5700 which the sales person assured me would work how I wanted with Nikon's capture 3 software. It does not and he will not allow me to return the camera. Does anyone know if the G3 and G5 are able to work like a D60 with remote capture by connecting the camera directly to the computer without a memory card in the comptuter and directly send the images through the USB cable to the file I create on the computer.
Thank you
John

John,
While using remote capture the G3 offers you the option to save file to CF or to Computer.
I think remote capture takes way better "P" mode pictures than I can :)

What do you mean by "without a memory card in the computer" ?
Yes g3 can send images directly to computer via usb cable. You can use canon software or another 3rd party soft called cam4u
