I've been actively searching for a 7D on my local Kijiji for more than a few weeks, checked out a couple and walked out on those offers because of unreasonable price/bad condition/bad vibe. But I think this one is a gem:
7D bought new in March 2012, all boxes/receipts/content of boxes, the better kit lens (15-85, POTNers write it's a good lens), UV filter, extra battery and a 8 gig CF card (no idea of the quality of those last two items... Just reread the ad, the card is 400x and the seller is throwing in a camera bag, make/model unknown. No hood on the lens.

12k shutter counts, 9/10 condition. Seller says the whole shebang cost her over $2600 (inc. 13% tax) and is asking $1950. I told her she was asking too much (local brick and mortar shop has the kit for $1900 (plus the damn sales tax)

Seller knows her price is high, won't give me her "take it or leave it price" and wants the proceeds to help fund a 5D Mk III. Around here, 7D with 2 years of use and a OEM grip sell for $1100-$1250.

I have no idea what the lens is worth used and thus need the help of the board. It's my turn to offer a price that's reasonable.

Id personally go for around $1600-$1700. The 15-85 is a good lens, but it's only one up from the kit lens really. The 17-55 is the better lens IMO.

You can get a brand new kit (7D/15-85)for just under $1800 CAD. The used one only has 2 months or less warranty left.

I would go offer $1500-$1550, and probably go up to $1600-$1650 tops. The UV filter ( depending on brand), CF card and cheap( i assume) bag aren't worth much in the grand scheme. You still need to buy a lens hood(be sure to explain this to her, might help your cause), so another ~$70+ tx from Canada, (or ~$30+ tx/sh from the US- but don't tell her this ;) ).

GL :)

I've seen a 7D + 15-85 combo advertised for $1500, 1 year old with 9000 clicks in Calgary with receipt from Vistek.

OK, so after much mulling, I offered the seller $1600. She replied " my bottom line for the selling price can't be less than $1750, unfortunately."

Me thinks I'm going to pass and wait until the seller is desperate to have the MkIII. She might change her asking price in a few weeks...

Good strategy? There are a couple of 7D or gripped 7D for sale in my area, but those are sold without glass.

It's sub-$1800 new from plenty of retailers here, so even after tax it'll end up being around the same price as what your seller is asking. Unless those 'extras' were worth a lot to you, it probably isn't worth dealing with that seller, or waiting weeks to find an optimal deal. You could also get it for $1700 used from Henry's (external link) if you wanted to take that route.

That's one of the things that's frustrating about Kijiji and other private sale places - people think what they paid is relevant to the resale value.

The only thing that's relevant to the resale value is what the market can pay. And in this case, I won't pay more than $1600. Mostly because the included accessories are not top of the line.

Are used camera's from Henry's checked by anyone or are they sold on a "caveat emptor" basis?

Well as this poster has found them for sub $1800 new - $1600 would be my very top price.
Personally I be looking for an L lens myself. As 7Ds like good optics! Just my 2 cents worth.
I like the poster comments of "please do let me know if you change your mind". The reality of selling something for what it's worth and what people are prepared to hand over sometimes takes a while to sink in. :0

The 15-85 has good optics....very good! There is no "L" lens that compares. The 24-105 offers similar IQ on a crop, with a MUCH narrower wide end. Same with the 24-70, plus no IS. The 15-85 seems to be the premier lens as far as IQ goes..for walkaround, features, and focal-range... for an 18MP Canon body.

Thanks, Tanker.

OK, so I emailed the seller, letting her know that I was still at $1600 and not moving. Message was brief, with no sarcasm, allusions to a bird in the hand or her ridiculous asking price.

It might work: her reply was "I will scope out some options and if I come up short, it's all yours. I will be contacting you within the next few days. :) "

To be honest, $1,600 is a generous offer. Her loss.

OK, the seller in posts above hasn't contacted me yet -- and her kit is still listed.

Found this: not local, but on the way between here and my ski chalet...

Canon Camera Gear for Sale...

All in immaculate condition!

A full professional DSLR kit ready to go. I bought it to shoot cinema and some weddings, but could never quite make the switch from Nikon and am looking to return to Nikon gear for my next camera purchase. SO... this could all yours for a good price!

Canon 7D (Less than 5000 shutter actuations) - $800
Canon EF 50mm f1.4 Lens - $375
Canon EF 85mm f1.8 Lens - $475
Canon EF 20mm f2.8 Lens - $425
Canon Speedlight 580 EX II - $450

Or buy the whole kit for $2200

The lenses are pretty well flawless, the speedlight has maybe 500-1000 actuations, and the body itself is pristine. This is without a doubt the best deal you will find for equipment of this quality.

Now, I was all primed for the 15-85 (because of IQ) and had done my research, comparing it to the other EF-S standard zooms. And this kit comes with primes. All EF, all fast enough. But I might have to sell one of the lenses to stay within my budget.

Thoughts, opinions? Thanks.

When to check that kit out yesterday, on my way back to the chalet... Seller is a pro shooter for the Canadian Forces, and is a Nikon guy -- that's what our army supplies its combat photographers. He bought the above gear in June 2011, thinking of shooting videos on it, could not get used to the Canon body. On the plus side, he takes really good care of his gear.

***

The seller of the original kit of this thread has contacted me twice since Friday, asking if I was still interested. That could be too late, since I've made an offer this morning, by email, for the 7D, flash and three primes.

Sounds like you're in an enviable position right now. Sounds like the original seller is getting desperate, so you have a great choice with either. Smile! ;)
