Is Canon ever going to drop the "D"?

It's 2013. Canon hasn't sold a film camera in over 10 years. You think they might drop the "D" from their EOS lineup at some point? I mean if they had released the 6D just as the "6" would anyone be confused and think it was film?

Just seems silly at this point.

Seems even more silly to change the name of a product line for no good reason what so ever.

What if someone was talking about a film camera with the same number as the digital? Just because they haven't made it doesn't mean people aren't using it.

So use different numbers. Even less confusing.

Then how would someone know if it's digital or film?

Does it have an LCD on the back and a memory card door? Was it made in this millennium? I don't think this is that hard.

My only concern is that people might be confused when Canon has to add a Q for quantum SLR cameras.

I doubt the general public even knows (or has given much thought to) what the 'D' stands for anyway. Every brand except Canon and Nikon had given up the D by now, yet consumers aren't dizzy with confusion.

That was going to be my response also, Seen quite a few people using them in the film classes.

So it's the 1v. If the new Canon was the 1X instead of 1DX, would anyone willing to put down $7K for a camera actually be confused?

True on both points but we have all been there on quick glances of things and after realize it's something completely different.

In the future, there might be a 750D but if they take the D out, it will be 750 which could be mistaken EOS 750 film slr.

I guess I don't mind the lettering.

In a smart world, no. But this isn't a smart world.

"D" stands for digital. Nikon uses it in the cameras too.

I use a Kodak Brownie
