Two Great Grey Owls were sitting about 50 yards away from one another. Very calm for quite some time then one tries to drive the other away. No contact, just a chase and the second bird flies off about 100 yards. Ten minutes later it returns and challenges the other Owl. It ends up on top with talons down and the bottom bird is upside down in order to protect itself with its own talons...and as you can see they are both pressed up against the tree. I didnt really see what exactly was going on until I viewed what I was photographing. Neither bird appeared to be hurt with the vanquished one now more than 100 yards away and sitting just inside an evergreen forest.
