Wen is it best to use special Epson papers:
epson velvet fine art paper; or
watercolor paper .... ?

I looked at a dozen links in the web but I could not find anything with specifics.

I have a Epson R1800 and I was wondering what affect the velvet fine art paper would give.

If anyone is aware of any links or has experience to share please share your information.

Cheers,

Bob - A Swell Guy

I have wondered about that velve paper, too, Bob. If you get the hankering to try it, let me know.

Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.

I have a roll of UltraSmooth Fine Art Paper for my Epson 4000. It is 17" wide by 50' long. It is 100 percent cotton, acid free paper. It is very heavyweight paper, such that it should not be cut with the built in cutter. I've printed only once on it with excellent results.

For archiving, gallery display, and generally the finest and longest lasting prints, it can't be beat. It is quite expensive though, as I have a 100' roll of Epson Premium Luster which was cheaper though twice as long.

In B&H they have samples of many different types of paper that they've printed with the various printers. The paper I like best is Epson's semi-matte paper. It's much smoother than matte, not as glossy as semi-gloss paper, yet is just a great feeling paper. The prints really stand out on it. I was going to pick up a roll, but I have the other two rolls now and didn't want to get a third. I use cut sheet more than the rolls.
