I was so busy playing with me new 5D I hadn't noticed there were 3 white globs about the size of a pencil lead on the mirror. I tried a rocket blower to no avail. I had heard the mirrors were very delicate so I took it to Tempe Camera Repair (a local Canon authorized repair center). To my horror he picked up my camera, grabbed some solution, put it on a tissue, scrubbed the spots off and handed it back to me. As soon as my heart rate slowed down I looked at the mirror as found it was perfectly clean and unharmed. I don't recommend this at home, but I guess they are more durable than I thought.

Personally I would never touch a mirror on a SLR. Maybe things have moved on and they are more resistant than before. (eg 1980's ;-)a )
In the past if you wiped over the mirror it put very fine scratches over the surface, try looking at it again an angle it around to see if you can see any.

I don't plan on ever touching it either, but I looked at it from different angles and I don't see any scratches.

What solution did he use? If you don't know, I'd try and find out.
