Call me ignorant, but that looks like a Cessna 182 body. Is this one of those things like how in cars a few different brands might use the exact same body with only a few differences? (Chrysler and Dodge minivans come to mind)

It's a 172RG. The best way to differentiate them is that the back window on the 182 is a 1-piece one, the 172 is a 2-piece unit and it wraps around the rear pillar.

The size is very apparent if they are side by side (the 182 is also wider) or small details such as the tiny hump on the upper cowling right by the propeller spinner, that is not found on the 172.

And these 172RGs are not very common. You see R182s and 172s everywhere (and regular 182s), but the 172RGs do not seem to be as common.

As I recall, there is your basic 172, and we all know what that is. Then there is a 172XP, which has cowl flaps and a constant speed prop. Next step up is the Cutlass, which is the XP with retractable gear.

In the Skylane world, there is the 182, and the 182RG for retractable. I can't think of any other major varriants of the 182 . . .

210 is next . . . (unless you bring in the tail draggers, where the 195s come into play)

The 182RG is technically an R182 (but the 172RG is a 172RG), and there's the T182/TR182 (turbocharged), and that's about it, everything else are minor variations and aftermarket conversions.

The 172 also has the T-41, which has a different IO-360 and you gain an extra 50hp over the regular version, and it's a whole 300 lb. lighter.

And the funny thing is that the Cutlass and the XP are 172s but they are certified under the 175 type certificate.
