I bought a new laptop with Windows 8 and for the life of me cannot get a successful calibration with the Pantone Huey. It will read the ambient but it fails immediately upon attempting the color profiling. It's a Vizio CN15-A5 if it helps any. My old Acer under Windows 7 calibrates fine with the same Huey.

It's not a case of the obvious...ie it doesn't fall off and the monitor isn't dirty. It just fails. Does anyone have any light they can shed on this? I'll buy a new calibration device if this one isn't compatible but I don't want to buy another if it's something I need to change in my settings or whatever. The Acer, for what it's worth, only has onboard graphics and the Vizio has dedicated Nvidia graphics if that makes a difference.

Thanks in advance!

I'm using the Huey pro on windows 8 right now. Dual Dell monitors on a home PV I build (Core I7, 16gbRam, ATI video, etc.). It works perfectly fine. I'm not sure why its failing for you. I don't think its a Windows 8 issue though.

I just have the plain Huey so it might be that. A little bit ago I managed to get about halfway through the calibration colors but then it failed the same way.

Hmm. It sounds like it's not seeing the calibration colors or something. Sorry I could not be more help.

It could be a communication issue. Is it plugged straight into the PC or are you going through a hub?

Have you checked with Huey, for new drivers or such?

It's going straight into the PC. I only have two ports and both fail.

Yes I have the latest software. Sadly though it's hasn't been updated in a while. I'm suspecting an incompatibility since it doesn't say specifically that 8 is supported.

Check your bios settings for any USB settings. Turn on legacy USB support, etc. See if it makes any difference.

Kind of a long shot, but try setting the Compatibility Mode to Win7 and run it as an administrator. I have a PC that I had calibrated with Huey prior to upgrading to Win8. I haven't had any issues but I haven't tried to recalibrate since upgrading. I should probably try.

I went into the BIOS the other day and there are no USB settings to be found so no luck there unfortunately. It's quite bare bones actually.

Hm. Not a bad idea. I'll give that a go. Do report back if you manage it before I do.

huey pro = huey

the pro just unlocks the software to allow calibrating multiple monitor setups.

I just meant software-wise. I'm just a basic owner. The software versions are not the same.

No dice on the administrator/compatibility modes. I also did find USB legacy support in the BIOS after all but it was already enabled.

One other thought is to ensure that you have up-to-date graphics card drivers -- I've heard of problems being fixed by updating them.
