Nice work Jesus. But please make clear what is so special about these flashes. Is it something special that other flashes can't do?

Well, the Canon aren't bare bulb and lack the power.

Canon can be modified to be bare bulb...however by doing this you loose other features of the flash. Power you need when there is a lot of ambient light present.

Bare bulb flashes have a better quality of light-- and you would need about 6 speedlights to equal the power of 1 CL-360. That is a lot less stuff to be carrying around.

What's your success rate with a speedlight in a parabolic reflector?

If anybody is presenting a typical straw man argument here it is a man that hasn't even placed an order yet for some "virtual deal" that he might / might not receive that's talking to a man that has his gear already in hands for number of months now and is using it. Like I already said, let's talk again once you actually have something in hands for a while.

In the meantime please notice Amex might give you your money back but Amex will not send you replacement unit overnight if you need one.

I've placed an order. Amex will absolutely give me my money back if the item doesn't arrive. Anyone that's ever dealt with Amex knows this. I can buy 2 units for the same price and have a backup on site with me.

Which vendor is giving you a replacement order overnight if you need one?

Look, I'm sure if I paid for something and saw it potentially cheaper by 50% somewhere else I'd want to point out every potential pitfall as well.

If you're happy with your purchase, not sure why you'd even spend the time arguing about it online.

Quality of light. I think the light emitted by a flashbulb for the AD/CL 180/360 is of the same quality as light emitted by a Canon flash bulb.

About six speedlights I can point at the ambient bit in my previous posting: https://photography-on-the.net …p=16362571&postcount=2659

I don't have to put a speedlight in a parabolic reflector I can use it just like it is.

I wouldn't destroy a 580exII to have bare bulb it would be wiser just to buy a cl-180 or cl-360. Plus there's a big difference between the output between the two. Its better to buy a item that is built the way you want then mod one and destroy the warranty.

They are just nice and lightweight and compact and easy to move around, and hand hold etc if needed. Not to mention great simple remote power control.

Don't you own one already though? (or is that another mmm username?)

Dead-simple remote power control along with the higher power and bare-bulb makes these a great choice for Apollo-style softboxes. Much better than speedlites which won't give the same even light spread. Not to mention that you will have to fit more flashes into the modifier which may not be possible.

Yes I own one as you can read three pages back and more pages before it.

That user name is unique on the world last time I checked and is standing for the first letters of my name folowed by the first letter of 'model' and the Dutch word for 'photography'

What you mention also goes for Quantum flashes but at considerable higher price.

I only pointed out that a speedlight can be modified to be a barebulb.

I did not know that there was a life-time warrenty on Canon stuff. ;)
