anyone notice the 19 soft box slips a bit though ? even when tightened running around I notice I have to push it back in ?
any fix ? thought of roughing up the metal a bit

my tube protector is solid ! but again the 19 box I can kinda pull off pretty easy even when tightened ?

That's nice Jesus.

I was wondering around You Tube and came across a Joel Grimes video showing how he setups up his lighting for sports composites. So, I thought I'd see how the Cheetah Lights and foldable umbrella frame soft boxes would work. It turned into a test session for head shot lighting once I saw the versatility available with the setup.

I used 2 CL-180s for the kickers, a CL-360 main and a CL-360 fill. I used a 120x170cm translucent pop open on a stand for the background. Also, a 2x4 piece of foam core for a fill reflector to open shadows under the chin. Camera was a 5DIII with 85 L at F8.0 and ISO 100. Shutter was 1/200. Cells-IIc in the hot shoe. The Main was varied from 1/4 to 1/32 power to get different lighting ratios relative to the kickers which were set at 1/8. For the samples in the panel the main was in a 90x90cm soft box with diffusion panel. kickers are 60x60cm boxes without a front diffusion panel. The images with a main and fill the 90x90 was fill and a 60cm Phottix octa for main. it was set to 1/8 and fill was set to 1/16.

All the images are processed with my standard input preset which is a strong tone curve, -50 for highlight and white sliders, + 50 for shadows and 0 blacks. Finally, +15 clarity.

All the lights are 38 inches plus minus from the subject. White reflector is about 12 inches below chin.

With the background about 6 feet behind the subject its tonality is a bit below mid-gray. Moving it to about 30 inches behind subject brings it up to mid or a little lighter.

The pull back image shows the setup.

After this little test session Its easy to see how well this setup will work for head shots and portraits in someone's home or an office. It will also work for full length shots with white paper or muslin for background sweep.

I can't seem to find a 19" Fabric Octa Softbox / Beauty Dish anywhere on their website. Where is it?

You are absolutely right. It is odd how it is not listed after being on sale. I just used mine today at a wedding and it was great. Easy yo assemble and take down. Great quality and love the grid. No complaints. Lets hope it come back. It was a steal on sale.

QUOTED IMAGE

Looks like it's been compressed to all buggery. Can you resize it to 1024pixels with 300dpi and make sure photobucket doesn't compress it?

Why any 300dpi? Web pages focus on total number of pixels and not pixel density - we can't change the pixel density of our monitors.

Yeh true. I just always do mine to 300dpi for printing and it makes no difference to file size so that's my standard.

Ha an other Photobucket user. I really don't like they scale the pictures and they do it almost as worse as Facebook.

Read this page and use "Display linked out photos in original size. Scale yourself the picture and then upload it.

The problem is when using a better monitor to display Photobucket pictures you see artifacts in the highlights so a face of a person gets acne or even worse..........

I always say when putting pictures on Photobucket the quality of the picture also go down the bucket...eh drain.
