Have you guys tested the light output of your 360 with the light meter? I tested out the Calumet version (which i believe is the same) and I found that from 1/2 power to Full power, I get an additional 3/4 stop of light, not full 1 stop as would be expected (Tested at about 10 feet mounted through Westcott style 30" softbox in dimly lit indoor environment).

Scott,
That stand looks like an antique. :-) I had a couple that were similar to yours in the early 70s. Used them as travel stands with Halogen lights. They worked great, I really liked the extension legs, helped a lot when using an umbrella.

There are a lot of variables when testing output, one is the modifier. and how you are measuring relative to the light and fall off from the modifier.

10 feet from a 30" modifier with the light reflected off the back could have several things contributing to the meter reading.

For power comparisons, I'd use the standard 5" reflector pointed at the target, then go to the target position and make sure you can only see the end of the flash tube. Meter on a tripod or light stand so it is always in exactly the same place relative to the light source. and also in line with flash tube end. I'd place a large color checker at the meter position so that precise exposure comparisons can be made in lightroom.

Try it at 1/160th. I believe the non cells transmitter have a little problem with speed.

That's an interesting stand, Scott. I had never seen one of those before. POTN is so educational. Patent for the leg extension mechanism granted in 1972:

And, speaking of oddball stands, have you seen this one:

I'll let someone else be the guinea pig and buy one but it is interesting to see yet another variation on the Manfrotto Nano theme.

David, although I did not use the standard reflector, but the softbox instead - I was actually metering to align my camera with the Sekonic 758dr. The grey card (target) and the Light meter were mounted on a light stand and so was the softbox - so relative to each other, their positions remained unchanged. Hence, the efficiency of the softbox should not be an issue here (since everything was at a fixed position from one shot to the other). Besides, I wasnt measuring for the the total max output (which could have been effected by the efficiency of the softbox) but just made the observation that even though at all other outputs levels the flash put out exactly 1 stop difference, but from 1/2 - 1/1 the output only increased by 3/4 of a stop.

Its not a big deal, but i just wanted to see if others had different results.

Zenabi, I was triggering via hand held FT-16 trigger - (not mounted on a camera) so the shutter speed shouldn't come into play here....

Yup this came in a kit 3 stands and 3 halogen 600 watt lights. Pretty much the same as my Smith Victor light kit with the Manfrotto Nano kinda stands. Got love storage auctions.

I love nano stands. I have 4 of them that are my basic kit for architectural interior lighting.
Can put the legs flat on floor for lots of base circumference or push them all the way together to fit into a tight corner.

They can hold a CL-360 with a medium umbrella frame soft box. Anything much heavier than that tends to bend them when fully extended.

That actually looks pretty cool. Someone else did do that tripod base nano stand first already though.
