One thing I forgot to mention is Edward had them build a ringflash for the unit with a modeling lamp that will be an optional accessory for the CL-600.

ohhhhh..... very interesting.

Seems like these new products will make very good "additions" for those of us who have "systems" pretty much built out all ready yet would like to fill specific voids - in terms of portability and or specific shoot functionality.....

What's nice is that all the products v850,v860,cl-180,cl-360,and the new cl-600 can be controlled all from the camera thru one trigger. The V-860 is ettl and the trigger does not signal ettl, but it will control manual power settings.

Interesting about the 600 unit. Assuming it's not IGBT unit but having a long-ish flash duration, I'll go out on a limb and say you'll be able to high-sync via Cells-II trigger.

I poster earlier it does not do HSS or stroboscopic

I think I'll hang onto my ES600 heads then. Any chance they'll sell just the CL600 heads without the packs? Also, you said they refresh faster than a CL360 WITH the 2:1 cable? I thought they did 1.5-2sec with that combo and the 600P packs did 2.5 sec. The packs look identical to the ES kits so I assume they're still the same blocks.

Edit again:
So I checked in on the Safari 2 units from some friends overseas. Looks like we get a detachable plug, slightly faster refresh, and about 1/2 to 1 full stop more output vs the ES heads. Plus the LED light doesn't drain the pack like the other heads do. So all in all the CL600's should be a great buy if they come in around $650-700.

LOL now your sounding like some models I know. ;) Great thread Dave

The set price for all sellers will be 588.00; the only way they can sell the 600 for under that is selling piece by piece or without something. You can pre order now and get on the first run which is limited quantity. They are suppose to be here by the 22nd of this month.

I know. And same goes for Mettle 600 nor White Lighting, but that hasn't stopped us from syncing beyond speed using YN622 trigger. I'm just guessing/hoping it may do so as well. Since you have the light, give it a try. Do you have Cells-II trigger or YN622?

I'm wondering if perhaps we might be getting hung up partly due to terminology here - perhaps we should be asking about flash duration - as the slower the flash pop (longer time period of light), the better chance we'll be able to use a flash trigger that can shift the camera shutter / flash trigger to align and take advantage of what can only be described as a very short continuous light exposure..... No?

I already have the CL360 for my OFC work but thinking of getting the CL180 to be used as my on camera flash. Do you think the 5D mk3 can handle the wieght on the hot shoe? I know it's all manuall and I am comfortable with that, my main concern is the weight on the hot shoe as I don't use brackets. Any help will be greatly appreciated

I don't own either one, I don't believe in using HSS or ETTL. I don't like wasting flash power when I can use a ND filter. I like to make the decisions not the camera or flash and I don't need hss for my style of shooting. :)

The 180 is not too heavy for the on camera hotshoe, it might be for your arms. ;)

The flash durations are quite long on the Xenergizer, and a number of people have said they work fine with the Cells II etc, in combination with the AD160/360. No shutter clipping issues.
