When you say "studio light" kit do you mean for use inside exclusively, combination of in studio and on-location. Working alone or with a crew? What type of shooting?

These are all factors. Some advantages the Einstein offers; modeling lights, quick recycle time on mains power, comprehensive remote control capabilities with Cyber Commander, large selection of modifiers.

The Cheetah Lights (180/360) are relatively small, easy to setup and use with battery packs. Can be used with most S mount modifiers with the Cheetah Pro Brackets. There are two and its best to have both depending on the size and weight of the modifier.

The CL-600, in my view, based on specs is a little closer to a studio strobe but still more for location shooting than studio shooting.

One consideration is flash duration. The Einstein, as well as the CL-180/360 use an IGBT power control circuit. This control means that as power is reduced the flash duration gets shorter. Most studio strobes, including the CL-600 use a voltage based power control circuit. This control method means that as power is reduced the flash duration gets longer. If you need or want to stop action with the strobe this is a hindrance.

Studio, as in not knowing what else to call them?
I plan on inside and outside work.
Probably mostly alone, and, hopefully, at times with assistance.

The below is VERY good information, especially the recycling times.
I am uncertain exactly how this, or if this would affect me, as most of my "work" would be posed/planned work, rather than a professional model having them "go! do your thing!" continuous moving poses.
I do agree that one needs to understand this, as one should ALWAYS know both the capabilities and limitations of oneself and the gear.
However, this recycle time on the CL600 would be a major concern as this is to be my first big light.
Now, I am back thinking of the Einstein again.
Thank you!

I have an Einstein, and the short flash duration can be a blessing or a curse. For portraits, I'd rather have something that can be manipulated to work like HSS.

Hello,
I have a conundrum on a studio light kit decision.
I am an experienced amateur, have way too many 580EXII lights.
And too many small softboxes and modifiers for the speedlights.
I would also like to try outside lighting with an ND filter, etc.
I have been longing for a big ol' studio type lighting kit for quite some time.
Well, now is the time.
I have been looking at the Einstein system, looks really nice.
The Elinchrom Quadras are appealing too.
Though, I am intrigued by the CL360 kit also.
I am aware that it has less output, as I am an avid reader of this great thread.
However, With the imminent(?) release of a CL600, should I wait for this?

Looking for some guidance of experienced users who perhaps have used an Einstein and the CL products.
Thanks!

I have a few elinchrom quadra and been using them for a few years, i really like em.
But after i tried the AD360, they been staying home. I used 1 head a battery on both the quadras and the AD360. The only reason i would pick quadra over the AD360 is if you wanna use the modelling light or ring flash.

I also tried the Godox 600 ws, i didn't like the modelling light, it was bulb instead of LED.
Also the mount of the godox EX600 head, feels a bit weak. Not sure if it can hold a big softbox.

Im gonna sell my last 3 quadras and buy a few more AD360.

I love to shoot and I aim to please ;)

The recycle time is almost the same Einsein is 1.7 seconds full power and cl-600 is 2.0

The CL-600 has a different head and a led modeling light which is about a 100 watt bulb

I have a question to ask about this light, I found the godox v860 works with the pocketwizard tt5/tt1 and ac3 to trigger and control the power up and down. Does the pocketwizard work with this flash?

Just wondering

thank-you in advance

Ray

I believe ETTL is a required feature of the flash to work with the tt5/tt1 and ac3. I think the tt5/tt1 can trigger the flash, but in manual mode only and without power control.

If only Godox made a remote receiver (USB) to ETTL connector we could also control the power with available triggersets and don't have to wait for Godox to produce FINALLY a remote that combines the Cells-II and FT-16.

If the v860 properly implements the Canon ETTL control protocol it should work with the TT1/TT5/AC3. As mentioned, the ETTL flash has to be in ETTL mode on the TT5. Then it gets the ETTL control messages via the ControlTL signaling. The AC3 is essentially a multi-channel FEC controller. In manual mode, it switches the remote light to M just as the Canon ETTL signally does.

I expect that the v860 would work approximately the same with the YN-622. Not sure if Clive has done a test to determine which class.
