Prototype 100w modeling lamp for the 180/360

I wonder if there is anything possible available in the way of an optic light switch?, which could be put in-line in the power cord, and then switched on and off remotely from the AF assist light on the flash (from the FT-16 remote).

Very useful option.

Its a prototype a lot of changes will be made from concept to finished product.

It will have a slide over locking modifier holder, so there will be no screws in the tube. It will also have a plug in the back, so you can detach the cord. The holder/mount will lock the remote flash head and it has umbrella/spigot mount plus 4 1/4-20 threaded mounting locations.

Nice. The ability to adjust the location of the flash tube in the modifier is a great benefit.

With the plug in the back, does that mean that two cables can be combined to create a farther reach? I know there is a point where cable length becomes a problem. Just wonder what the practical limits might be.

wow. very cool. i'd think moving the bulky elements off the mount to the other end of that power cord would help in a beauty dish or other modifiers that don't have a lot of room in front of the bulb.

It can be done, but you would have to open the flash to mod it. Not a lot of people are going to want to do that. ;)

It has magnets,Velcro, and clipps to any modifier. This one is focused and the new version is wide beamed.

You could but I would not recommend it the longer the length the larger gauge wire is need and it will drop Ws. If you need longer then 6 foot of cable you might need to use something else. ;)

I don't know if it even exists, but I was meaning some sort of optic light switch that could just be taped on in front of the AF light. When the AF light comes on it triggers the switch on as well.

So no mods to the flash itself.

I'm sure someone could build a circuit to even do this with a standard optic slave cell.

There must be some photo-transistor solutions available that could activate a relay or a big enough MOS-FET transistor.

6 feet should be sufficient. The wire gauge thing is always a limiting feature.

I can build its own remote that will turn it on and off, but that will just bring up the cost. The remote would be no bigger then the size of quarter (.25 cent piece). They do make optical switches, but in bright light or when the strobe is fired it will turn it on or off.

Hi this question has probably been answered somewhere in this 305 page thread, but the search function doesn't take me there.

Question to owners of Cheetah/Godox 360:
Is this unit too heavy to mount on a hotshoe? Will it tear the top off my 1D Mk4 or 5D3?

Also, is the cable that connects the PB-960 battery to Canon 580/600 EX the same as the Quantum CZ-2 cable? I have Quantum Turbo T3 and I tend to get around 12-18 months from the CZ-2 cables. They're expensive! If the PB-960 cables are a match, I'll buy a bunch of them.

Thanks in advance

-pwp

It will mount fine on camera, just a lot more weight to carry around.

I tried it and it's fine. It does hit my forehead a bit though :).
