What is the shipping price though from Link Delight?

(Seems like I have to go through the complete order prices to find out?)

It appears to be based on weight, with a single 180 flash unit being about $15 to ship to the US.

Thanks, yes I just registered to try it. The complete kit is an insane deal if its true.

[Edit] - That site is also a pain in the arse, the prices are all over the place. I see the complete kit is out of stock and currently marked as $606. Did anyone actually get the $346 deal?
.

While I, just like everybody else, love to dream about winning a lottery and getting incredible deals, in real life I am very suspicious of the places where price oscillates wildly from one moment to the other. And right now they are listing just flash for $476, which is $50 _MORE_ than CheetahLight. I don't care about 'Wow! Look at this price!" unless one is able to actually purchase and get items delivered at that price.

Agree.

Stable pricing with great customer service trumps other options.

The discounted price is only after you add to the cart and enter the promo code, at which point it displays the advertised $276 price. I can't vouch for proceeding all the way with the process, but I can say I've purchased from Link Delight in the past with positive results.

It is good to hear that your experience with them is positive one. What I would like to see even more is number of people that actually received this deal in their hands.

By way of clarification, my original post was pitched (as stated at the time) as information for folks OUTSIDE the USA. In no way intended to supplant CheetahStand for those with same-country-access - the reputation of CheetahStand for service is far too good to pass up for any short-term saving.

Phil ǁ Kershaw Soho Reflex: 4¼" Ross Xpres, 6½" Aldis, Super XX/ABC Pyro in 24 DDS, HP3/Meritol Metol in RFH, Johnson 'Scales' brand flash powder. Kodak Duo Six-20/Verichrome Pan. Other odd bits over the decades, simply to get the job done - not merely to polish and brag about cos I'm too mean to buy the polish!

It seems like the LinkDelight AD180 + Battery got bumped up to 591 instead of 519, might have been a writing error on the site since it was a really good deal that the battery would be cheaper than the wireless transmitter/receiver set.

I think the EU has similar rules, to those in the US which state that if you place an ad for a certain price, even by mistake, that price has to be honored for the life of the ad.

I doubt if Chinese companies selling via the internet in the US and/or EU will feel obligated to comply. :-)

More on the Chimera 2705 Quantum/Lumedyne speed ring:

Now why didn't I think of this? I came across a post on another forum in which a clever way of mounting a Quantum T5D-R to a Photoflex speed ring was described (image of original concept here: http://www.accolade-photography.com/DPR/QUANTUMspeedring.jpg (external link)). With some alterations, it works brilliantly with the 180 and 360 flash units.

The goal of the exercise is to join the flash to the speed ring such that the ring and flash form one solid unit. This provides security for the flash while removing stress from the head joint. The assembly works well with softboxes and also allows the safe use of very large umbrellas.

Only a few parts are required:

1. Chimera 2705 speed ring
2. Manfrotto 143BKT camera mounting platform
3. 4-1/2" or 5" length of 5/8" diameter aluminum rod
4. Umbrella swivel such as the Manfrotto 026 Lite-Tite
5. 1/4" to 5/8" adapter

6. A side locking cold shoe if it's the CL-180 that is to be mounted.

This image should be self-explanatory:

IMAGE: http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3813/8906590346_1e7ea9e7ab_o.jpg

A 360 is seen on the left. A 180 is on the right. Note that the 360 can be screwed directly to the Manfrotto camera platform. The 180 with its integral flash foot requires the addition of the side locking cold shoe. To compensate for the height of the foot + shoe, the Manfrotto camera platform has been lowered on the 5/8" aluminum rod.

In use, there is no stress applied to the flash head swivel joint and the accessory mount is not being asked to support the weight of the flash itself:

IMAGE: http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3823/8905691047_71baa5c2c7_o.jpg

With the flash head secured to the Chimera insert, downward forces are transferred to the 5/8" aluminum rod, not the head joint. Consequently, large umbrellas can be used. Here a 60" Photogenic Eclipse is shown:

IMAGE: http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2816/8905690981_52d2e48e72_o.jpg

The combination of the bare bulb and the Chimera's slightly dished contour ensures full umbrella illumination at very short bulb-to-apex distances. Here the Chimera ring has been positioned almost even with the leading edge of the umbrella:

IMAGE: http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2837/8905691291_fc3ab1a547_o.jpg

The parts required:

And to think I had two of those Manfrotto camera mounting platforms sitting around here ...

I think you have to switch your "right" and "left" there in your text - the left is the 360 and the right is the 180 flash.

I noticed that switcheroo, too.
