Hello and thanks in advance for any ideas you may have,

I purchased 30 photo mats for an 8x10 image that came with cardboard backing. They are not archival or fancy. I have a one-time chance to display some photos and did not want to make a huge investment. I have read about the self-adhesive photo corners and plan to use them to secure photo to the backing. I guess I was going to hinge the top of the mat-backing with 1 inch linen-type tape.

How do you keep the mat and the backing together (at bottom) well enough to be displayed?

How do you rig the matted image to be able to hang from a single string?

Thanks for reading this,

Bruce

My own method in the same situation is to attach the photo to the rear of the mat with an adhesive paper tape. Then some double sided wide adhesive tape between the mat and the back board (avoiding the photo) to secure them together.

To hang them I've used a couple of methods, depending on the circumstances. The first is to simply drill a couple of holes in suitable positions and add some string, adhesive taping it into position before assembly. Alternatively you can buy small metal hook type things which need to be carefully fitted and are very fiddly it must be said.

How succesful it is will depend on how sturdy your cardboard backing board is. The boards I use are 400mm x 500 mm overall and are pretty sturdy, almost hardboard like.

Best of luck, hope the display goes well. Some feedback on the event wouild be great.

Thanks Lowner,

I appreciate your input. I will order some tape. I can imagine the hanging options are touchy.

Thanks,

Bruce
