raw tiffs and jpgs

i read a post where(can't find the post or I'd ask him) one guy was talking about how he archhives in raw, prints in Tiff, and puts them on the web in jpg.

What are the advantages/disadvantag​es on using these varies files?

I will short form it based on what I do. I am probably not the one you are refering to, but I do the same.

I archive RAW because it is the original file and gives me highest quality and ability to correct minor mistakes. By archiving RAW I keep the most options open to me. (note converting to DNG format is a close alternative). Also the file size is smaller then TIF.

I use TIF format for highest quality printable file, but in a common format as not everyone can use RAW images. The disadvantage to TIF is large file size.

Jpegs get used for the web because they have the smallest file size while still retaining enough quality for web viewing, while at the same time not allowing someone to make a great quality print from it (unless I put it on the web for that purpose)
