Hi everyone, I'm using the Canon 6D and I am suffering an weird issue. I could not get my pictures straight onto my PC in portrait orientation. From the 3 rotation settings on the menu, none of them affect how they upload to my computer, everything comes out in Horizontal/Landscape (ie. portraits on their side), regardless of the settings!

Any opinions are much appreciated. Thanks

Are you using canon's software to upload to the computer? i might be wrong, but i think unless you use the canon software, alternatives such as lightroom will not pick up the settings to rotate your jpg's.

Ximocko,

I've always assumed that was normal, as I've always simply manually rotated mine.

So I will be interested to read what suggestions are made.

I always upload directly to LR and my images were always automatically rotated, portrait or landscape.

I have the auto-rotate setting set to ON(with the computer symbol).

Well, I just copied all the images to the hard disk first and then I used Lightroom to import what photos I wanna edit further. So it seems like this function only works with Canon's software. That' a pity though.

So can I do anything in DPP or Eos Utility to do something similar?

Some cameras have Auto Rotation as an option in the menu that must be on ON to see the effect.

Free alternative to Canon's software or anyother, is FastStone Viewer - LINK HERE (external link)- that is an excellent free program I use all the time with ability to see your RAW images instantly and easily too with of course autoRotation and a lot more. If you don't have, make sure to use it no mater what else you use normally.

Use Canon's zoombrowser software to import and it "should" auto rotate for you.
I don't know about dpp or any other canon software as i only used to use the zoombrowser for uploading my pics. now i just use lightroom.

Steve75,

I am ashamed to admit I've never tried Zoombrowser! Eos Utility works so well I've never looked elsewhere.

I consider DPP pretty much worthless, so I just import it into LR and then rotate there.

What PC and O/S?. The rotation info is imbedded in the exif and I think some later version of Windows can be configured to do the rotation.

I'm exactly the opposite, to me LR is worthless, so I'm in the habit of doing my RAW conversions in DPP and moving to Photoshop immediately. From the sound of it theres nothing in DPP that will auto rotate anything, would that be about right?

i've just been googling and found there is a windows plugin that will do it, unfortunately it isn't free though [$14.95] - FastPictureViewer Codec Pack.

I don't know if there is another free alternative out there somewhere that might be of help.... i'm certainly not bothered enough to spend money on it, i'll just rotate them manually or go back to using zoombrowser.
