As I said above really, I have a 50L along with a 85L and 135L, my 50L just seems not to the same quality in regards to the images, especially wide open...also I think it may be a bit close to the 85L or perhaps its a focal length that dosn't really appeal to me..

I shoot weddings and the 35L looks to be a nice focal length to complement the other L primes as it would give me that equal difference in focal length between them, looks to be very sharp wide open too looking on the 35L thread.

So have you owned the 50L and binned it for the 35L?? if so did you regret it or not look back??

The camera is just a storage box, it's the gLass in front that makes the image...

I'd say if you have the stellar 85 then bin the 50 (the image rendition is very similar) and get the 24-70L II instead, that is if you don't mind the f2.8.

I did a test comparison recently. My 24-70 beats my two L primes at similar FL at f2.8. I didn't expect that at all.

That's interesting, last time I looked at this lens it was over £2k but seeing I can get it now for £1.5k and I could sell my 50L & 24-105L to fund most of the purchase, the other side of the coin is I just love the look of the 35L at f1.4 but 24-70 is so much more versatile in a wedding environment....this isn't going to be easy!!!

I sold my 50L and now have a 35L. I like the 35 better.

If you are shooting events and can use flash, get the 24-70ii.....

If you need to shoot without flash, get the 35L.

or get both so you can be prepared for either situation. personally, I have yet to be in a situation where I didn't have room to use the 70-200 when I need flash anyways, I have no use for the 24-70.

I dont have my own 50L, but before getting 35L i take 50L from my friend and use it for 1 month, to know that better for me.
IQ its very close, but 35mm for me its more comfortable focal length.

I also borrowed a friend's 50L before deciding I rather upgrade my 35/2 to 35L than my 50/1.4 to 50L. I hardly shoot 50mm and really like the flexibility of a 35L and 85L. With three zooms, I don't have a lot of space for L primes and compromised on those two.

Obviously if you shoot the 50 a lot and can really use it wide open (e.g., really shallow DOF portraits), I'd stick with the 50L.
