I am transferring from a 1D Mark IV body to a 1DX and I have a question regarding focus points. I like the 1DX in every respect and I could never go back to a cropped body.

On the 1D Mark IV it was possible to use only one focus point and place it in the corner of the view finder, this does not seem possible in the 1DX body. The focus points seem to be active only towards the center of the field of view. Is there any way to move a single active focus point to the corner of the field of view in the view finder in the 1DX as can be done in the 1D Mark IV?

Perhaps this is a trade off for full frame

Thanks in advance

you can move it to any of the 61 selectable points.

Thanks for your response but what I am trying to figure out is it possible to place a focus point out side of the selectable area which is smaller in the view finder in a 1DX body as compared to a 1DX body.
Here are the selectable points in the 1DX and I want to place a focus point in the corner of the view finder as I did with my 1D Mark IV...is this possible ?

This is the Mark IV viewfinder.

You're saying you somehow selected a point outside of the oval?

No, you can use any of the 61 points but not add more anywhere else.

This is a feature of FF cameras, the further away from the centre of the image circle you get, the harder it is to get accurate AF. Even crop cameras don't place AF points right out to the edges of the sensor area, with FF cameras you are really looking at the same effective part of the circle for AF, but have a lot more area around it, so they have the AF points clustered more centrally than crop cameras.

Remember also that the 1D Mk IV is a 1.3x crop sensor camera, so the viewfinder "view" will be smaller than the 1Dx, which is a full-frame sensor camera. I'm sure if you overlayed the "smaller" viewfinder "view" of the 1D Mk IV over top of the viewfinder "view" of the 1Dx you'd likely see that the area of focus point coverage is virtually the same, if not "wider" for the 1Dx.

IOW the viewfinder focus points for the 1D Mk IV probably fit "inside" the focus points area of the 1Dx.
