Here the "paranoid" owner of the great 24-70 are again asking a "just for sure" question:
My lens is new - and i am using it a lot - and i have got confidence in it by your help. But its a very expensive piece of glass - and i find the zoom ring a littlle stiff - is that normal too ?
or maybe i just have too forget the price i payed and treat it like my 50 1,8 :_))

That's fairly normal. It's not impossible to move but it's snug. Mine is a little bit. It seems to *improve* over time.

Mine was also quite stiff when brand new. Eased up over the next couple of weeks. I've read many others had the same experience.
Enjoy. The 24-70L is a delight to use in so many ways. It continues to grow on me.

yes - i think it is - before i bought it you guys in here was helping me decide between the 24-105 L and the24-70L
As u can see i chose the 24-70. and what a tool !!!!
But - I see i have too learn manage it- it is much more demanding than my other lenses - the diff between bulls eye and crap in picture quality is very obvious. And that is the most amazing part of the lens. Thanx for make me buy it :-) And when i now am sure its ok - fokus like heaven - stiff ring is normmal - I am close too just relax and enjoy the thing :-))))
Til now i have been shooting grandchildren - waterfalls - flowers and u name it - and deleted them all - :-) because i looked at it as testing - lol.
But tomorrow I am going out - to a beautiful place near by - and hopefully shoot some keepers :-)
I will share some with u soon :-)

Most good lens(higher priced ones) from my experiences have been tight at first. And i'd defintely expect it on any weather sealed lens.

I'd prefer a stiff zoom over a real loose one!! Mine's perfectly normal. But I'm still trying to tame this lens. :)

Here's to get an idea. Grab a 28-135 IS, and hold it up by the back end, upside down. You'll see the lens zoom out...slowly. Now, grab your 24-70L. Do the same. What does this lens do? Nothing.

Actually, I did the opposite. Place your lens head down and watch the body sliding down... :)

...why?

Point is, some people have problems with a..uh..not as expensive lens, like the 28-135, With the zoom ring creeping out when not holding the camera up. Never heard of that problem with the 24-70L.

You are correct. The 24-70 is a little finicky, especially when compared to my other lenses. With a little practice it can be mastered and oh what a feeling that is.
