So this time they busted out my window at work and took the bag with my lenses. Unfortunately we don't have security cameras so there is no way to get their license plate.

Canon 24-105L, Sigma 50, Canon 18-55 IS, 430EX Flash, Tamrac bag, and some Hoya filters.

Getting back last time was the grace of God, I pray He sees fits to help out again.

Fortunately I had my camera inside so at least I still have that.

Where did you leave the bag, in the trunk or in the car seat? If it's in the trunk, then someone is spying on you and know what you have.

Front seat floor under a pillow, sun shade, and rolled gun range targets, behind dark tinted windows in black leather car. There was NO way so see it. Aggravating thing is they did it right before I left work and I park literally 15 feet from my office door and I didn't hear them pounding on my window, but an employee two parking lots away on a break did hear them and ran to investigate. He saw them but was too far to get a license plate.

Where did it happen the last time? Did you leave the gear by the seats and not in the trunk?

Last time it happened at home. I always park in the garage but I was building my son's play set so I had to park in the driveway as the garage was full of wood. I always bring my gear inside when i come home but that night I rushed to start working on the play set. So they were on my seat with the doors unlocked. Some punk walking through the neighborhood trying doors tried mine and found them.

No offense OP but this is exactly what I thought when I saw the post. As everyone else has said I am barely willing to go into a gas station and leave my kit in the car. And when I do leave it in the car its completely locked up and actually bolted into the trunk.

Ah I see. Man, that's tough luck. Now you have to pay to get the window replaced as well. Hope you have at least insurance for your gear. Next time just be extra careful where to hide things. The trunk is the best bet.

I don't even want to leave an old jacket on the car seat just because I don't want anything to be visible for thieves to have a reason to break in. Good luck.

Did you have the serial #'s of your lenses? That would help tracking the stolen lenses as well.

Hi Tiggity,

Really bummed to hear this. Sorry it happened! Definitely keep an eye on Craigslist and eBay. Report it to the police and they [Should] keep tabs on pawn shop intake.

Cheers.

May I suggest a security cable and bag. Here is a link to the one I use.

http://www.corporatetravelsafety.com …era-protector-p-1209.html (external link)

Put your gear inside it, lock it with the security cable fastened around an immovable object, such as the child-restraint attachment points found in newer cars. And put it in the trunk anyway. It probably won't stop a determined thief with plenty of time, but it should prevent a smash-and-grab.

I also use mine in hotel rooms, although it is often difficult to find an immovable object in a hotel.

+1 for the bolt it to something. TT makes several bags with built-in tethers. I tether the bag to the child-seat anchors.
