Are they better than matte screens?

I find they calibrate better and are much easier on the eyes. No comparison in my opinion and I have had both. This. Dell's new U2713 (HM as well as H) have what I personally think is the best compromise between the two. So you should really look in person at various monitors and decide which one is the best for you. Canon 7D w/grip, Canon SX30 IS (modified for IR), Rokinon 14mm, Canon 24-105 L IS, Sigma 50mm, Canon 70-200 F/2.8 L IS II, Canon 100mm L IS, Kenko 1.4x Pro DG, Canon 2x II extender, Yongnuo YN-565EX, Induro CT414 with Induro BHL-3 and GHB-A

The 3D sparkly effect drives me absolutely nuts. I recently tried and abandoned almost immediately a Dell U2711 monitor. An excellent monitor no doubt. But the excessively heavy antiglare was completely unacceptable to me. Just Sports Photography

Yes they can be a pain... dust, finger prints, glare... but I love the nicer smoothness, contrast, depth. I have mine with a window directly behind it so I get little glare, and even then its only visible on dark areas. To each his own, like so many other things. 60D gripped | 10-22 | 50 1.8 II | 100-400L
