Hey all.

Ok, so here is my small problem.

I love taking pictures at the beach, ponds, lakes, etc.

I love taking photos of rocks that are along the water for example or things in the shore of the water and love when i get that creamy water look i get when i slow down the shutter, put camera on tripod and use remote to fire it off.

Up until now i have always waited for it to start getting dark so that i could slow down the shutter because obviously this wont work when the sun is out and beaming or the sun is out and its just not dark enough yet.

So my question is, what would i have to purchase in order for me to put in front of my lens and be able to slow down the shutter without it being dark enough out yet.

This would be great help and would allow me to do it during a time of day when its still too bright to get it done naturally. Problem is, i have no clue what is needed for this.

I currently own the 5d-2, 16-35, 24-70, 70-200 ii. Can someone point me in the rite direction and maybe link up a kit or something good i could buy straight from B&H (I live 10 min away from shop).
It would be great help if someone could show me everything that is needed.

I also don't care too much for price and would like to buy something nice so quality of my L lens doesn't suffer because it is poor quality.

If a kit is not a good idea then i would like to get something to fit my 24-70 first then i would get another later on for 16-35.

Thank you very much. You guys are always great help.

You need what's called a Neutral Density filter. They come either as round, screw on filters sized for each lens (or use with adapter rings) OR as a large square filter meant to be held with a screw on filter holder...there are pros/cons to either. Neutral Density (aka ND) filters come in increasing density but in sometime confusing "coding". Some use 0.3, 0.6, 0.9 to mean 1, 2, and 3 stops reduction of light being trransmitted thru. Cokin has their own system. ND filters range from 1 to 10 stops with some having a variable density range. NDs range in price from fairly inexpensive to several hundred, dependent on size, quality, and whether its a single density or a variable density. Some complain about a color cast (usually magenta) imparted by less expensive NDs.

You can also step down your aperture(but not to the point where you get diffraction).
