Can you tell me how in the world you get shots like this??? I just got a 100L macro lens, and I can't get anything close to this. I know the depth of field when you're this close is so shallow that you have to stop way down, but even with a tripod, how do you focus so well and how do you have a shutter speed short enough that it doesn't catch the insect's movement? Do you use a ring light? Any advice you can give would be much appreciated! Such fantastic shots!

thanks so much.
practise, practise, practise!!! seriously though, get to know your equipment and shoot as often as you can.all these are hand-held( dont use a tripod),and switch your lens to manual focus,if you havent already, and get used to swaying in and out to find the sweet focus spot, stop down to at least f/11 to f/16,and use a flash.i wouldn,t recommend a ring light.i have one,but i dont use it anymore.you,re better off with a normal flash, and get it as close to the end of the lens as you can( flash bracket, and small ball head should do it),and diffuse it with DIY,or i have a lumiquest mini-softbox,that works pretty good.
there,s tons of great info, and tutorials on here by many of the regular contributors to choose from, and dont be afraid to ask.that,s how you learn.we all have to start somewhere.
