Jan 30, 2013 11:10 | #3 A bit OT but I find it funny that the 40mm pancake is $10.00 more right now (159.99) than a new one from B&H (149.99) and even worse Canon charges you tax and shipping which bring it to almost $40.00 more to buy a refurbished one.

Remember Canon was originally pricing this lens at $200 so going by that someone might think it's a good deal.

There is no surprise here. This is case for most of the time, particularly for non-L lenses. Canon refurbish pricing is pretty straight forward. 20% of list price. It does not matter what other places sell for. Most of the time, especially when there are rebates, refurbish can cost more than new. Refurbish lenses can become attractive though when there is additional 20% off( and the new ones are not heavily discounted). But, non-L refurbish lenses usually should get additional 30-50% off to become attractive.

Surprised it sells so well used for $135-140 with 150 retail price. Never understood why someone wouldn't spend $10 more for return policy and full warrantee.
