Im thinking of getting a photo booth going at weddings for 1-2 hours during the reception.. I have a couple of questions:

1. What kind of backdrop would be best for photo booth? (muslin.. seamless paper etc.)

2. What length and width of paper/cloth do you guys normally use for backdrops?

3. will be using 2 shoot through umbrellas pointed towards the photo booth however I'm wondering if you guys put some type of casing on top of the camera / or write something which makes sure that no one touches the actual camera? and only touch the shutter release button which will be available to them.

4. Finally whats the best shutter release for 5D Mark III?.. I want something which has hot shoe on top of it.. because il be plugging either a 600EX-RT on camera which triggers 2 x 600ex-rt's off camera shooting through umbrellas

Thanks for replies in advance!

I use this backdrop (external link).

No case, I just tape these to the front and back of the camera and put one on my laptop. Also, my wife baby sits the whole thing.

I use a rebel for the photobooth. I personally wouldn't use a 5D, mostly because it's overkill. For the Rebel, I have a basket marked remote with this (external link) in it, but it won't work for a 5D I don't think. I bring a backup in case they lose it, andthis is attached (external link) to the front of the tripod.

^ the only reason I'm using 5D on photo booth is because I don't own a 60/600D etc.

This is why during the hour or so when I do the photo booth session il leave one of my 5D's on photo booth with the 35L or 85L on it while I go around take photos with the other 5D + 70-200II.

Yeah I bought an old T1I just for this, but honestly even an older Rebel would work.

Yeah I use DSLRremote too, although I don't think I really utilize it's capabilities. I really only use it to have my laptop display the last image taken full screen, until the next image is taken. It was ridiculous how hard it was to accomplish that simple task.

Fair enough.. I've put in an order for Phottix Aion:

http://www.phottix.com/en/phottix-aion.html (external link)

it has a few other functions which i can use in my own time to play around with the shutter release but it should work for the photo booth quite well.

I think il invest in a 600D later on.. maybe in a month or two when i have more money lol.. recently invested in 24-70II so I'm a bit broke haha

That thing seems cool, but what I like about the one I use is that there is only one button. Makes it more drunk idiot proof...

hmm true.. might put a thick tape over the top and bottom quarter of the remote.. that way you only have one button visible to people, that could work

Do you guys think just one 100cm - 120cm shoot through umbrella would be good for photo booth or do you guys recommend 2? (one on each side 45 degrees from subjects).

I would recommend 2. A wedding reception is usually dark with no usable ambient light. It will also be difficult to control shadows of overlap people, so the 2nd set a bit lower can help fill in the gaps.

I think one flash with a shoot through umbrella and a flash in the shoe with a large bounce card is plenty IMHO.

You're just gonna leave your 5D3 unattended on a tripod while you're elsewhere doing candids and stuff?
Better leave a handwritten sign that says "Please don't steal this camera, it's real expensive and I can't afford another one right now"
