I took a bunch of indoor shots at a Downs Syndrome group party this weekend and had to set the ISO at 1600 for no flash (sensitivity thing with the kids). I now have about 200 shots to PP with lots of noise..I downloaded the trial version of Noise Ninja. The photos I've tried look more like alagator skin than improvements on the real noisy ones I have tried...any suggestions or walk thrus for this program (or other programs)...I gotta be doing something wrong!..?? Help...Please!!! !

You might try Noiseware Community Edition (it's free). Use the defaults, and it doesn't do too bad a job - I'm sure a proficient Noise Ninja user could do a better job, but to quickly see what improvements could be made, you could do worse.

P.s. I hope you rescue them - you normally take lovely shots at the meet ups.

You might want to try Neat Image. It too has a free version. Only down side to the free I think is that you can only use with Jpeg's and save at 80% quality.

as much as I can remember...unless you purchase the keycode...you can't save your work...so...if your viewing a saved image....that may be the problem.....I use it with all my images and mostly shoot at 3200.....never had a problem......

when you run the program.....in the small window....you can see before and after results.....but I noticed that even after running auto profile...the image is better than the preview....don

Cheers, Don

My guess is Streetshooter has it figured out. Upload a sample of the "alagator skin"?

Holy Smokes!!I finally got Noise Ninja working !Wow ! Talk about saving a photo and turning it into a fine piece out of a noies event...

I downloaded both Noise ninja and Neat Image...neat was OK but would not work on some photos for me..Now that I am understanding NN it's a whole new world! Does anybody know which version it is that the download is ?? Which should I be purchasing for what we do here ? They offer a couple of home and/or pro versions....The one that they demo for free is fine , but I can't tell which it is...Thanks for the help folks...I will have questions as I progress with this!

PS; the photo I wanted to work with was not approved for internet use by her Mom ..............

Peachman - the differences are outlined on their website. From what I remember, the main differences are a) whether it can be used as a plugin, or just standalone. b) 8 bit vs 16 bit c) batch processing

Glad you worked it out, and looking forward to seeing the results!

P.s. would be great if you could give an example image, and the process you went through to fix it, and the results you got.

The software download is all the same. Different licenses allow different features to work. If you buy a lower-priced license and find you need one of the "pro" versions, the cost to upgrade is the same as the difference in price. So there's no risk in starting with a basic version.

If you ever take a lot of high ISO shots at an event, I think you'll find the batch processing capability of the pro version is worth the investment.

Peachman,

Please take a look at this thread. I gave some examples of a technique that I learned from Luminous Landscape that does a great job getting rid of chroma noise. Once the chroma noise is gone, all that is left is the luma noise - which has a much more natural looking appearence.

Personally, I get rid of the chroma, save, run the shot through Noiseware. I then take the Noisewared shot and layer it over the pre-noisewared shot and set the blend to about 70%. Just enough texture to look good without looking plastic.

Rad
