Last week my camera failed. The lens was still extended out and no power. I looked over peoples comments of the same problem and found it to be a common problem with the Powershot G1.
I called tech support and it was going to cost me $155 to send back and get repaired and not to mention a two - three week turn around time. I depend on my camera and don't have one to back mine up if it fails. I also work for an electronics company and after reading a comment from a customer known as "proflex" who repaired his own camera and posted the results, I decided to use his comments and get the camera repaired where I work. The information was very useful and I had my camera up and running within a week and it cost me less than $25.00. It happen to be the fuse inside that went bad.
I feel this problem, since it is common with the powershot G1, should have been a recall.
