Just loaded the 203 firmware on my 20d. What extra settings has it? Also is this the latest firmware download? Thanks in advance!

it doesn't have extra settings because of the firmware update but it's just some bug fixes and or small small changes for better performance.
version 2.0.3 is the latest version available at the moment.

Wow.. I still have the version 1.04 on mine... It works great, and no flaws. Is there any point to upgrading it?

This is true for any product that runs on embedded software... You shouldn't upgrade for the sake of upgrading. If you have specific issues and an upgrade addresses them, then upgrade. If you are having no problems... don't fix what isn't broken.

Although I haven't see Canon do it yet, staying on old firmware can cause you to update twice when you finally want to update. Not a huge issue, unless you gotta dig to find the required base firmware....

Latest example: Epson P-2000 required version 2.04 be installed prior to installing 2.51

I haven't head of a Canon firmware update that caused your camera to function "worse" than it used to on the old version. Possible, but not probable.

Firmware is not like PC OS that interfaces with other programs. Sometimes it is prudent with OS updates to wait to let the smoke clear to see if there are any glaring interface problems (ie other programs you have no longer work). It is THE program on the camera.

But if you update what isn't broken, and the power fails, you end in a £1000 brick with a lens attached (or not, i think they tell you to take it off :D)

And if you drop it, it becomes an ugly brick...so please, don't try picking it up...

My initial testing right after the firmware upgrading today seems to have solved the communication problem between my 20D and Kingston card. But I'm going to do more extensive testing to be sure....
