Did your 7D come with the updated firmware preinstalled, or did you still have to upload that manually?

The last update to the 7D firmware was mid-September. It is possible to have a "brand new" 7D that was manufactured prior to that but updating the firmware is not difficult to do. The latest version is 2.0.3. 5D4 w/BG-E20, 24-105 f/4L, 70-200 f/2.8L IS II, 35 f/1.4L, 85 f/1.8, 100 f/2.8L IS Macro, Sigma 50 f/1.4

If you are comfortable hand-operating a modern SLR, you are easily capable of running a simple update process. True, it is a bit nerve-wracking the first time, but if you follow the instructions,it's a breeze and any future updates are simple. I have never had any issues with the firmware update but I would probably wait until after the shoot, just in case. 5D4 w/BG-E20, 24-105 f/4L, 70-200 f/2.8L IS II, 35 f/1.4L, 85 f/1.8, 100 f/2.8L IS Macro, Sigma 50 f/1.4

Not because I think the FW update may go badly, but rather because after the update the camera may not perform the same as you've come to expect. The new features in the update include new menu screens and a host of new functions, assigned to different buttons. Unless you're familiar with these, it may throw you off your shoot tomorrow. If you're doing this gig for money, I would seriously wait on the update and do it when you have some down-time to see what's changed and how it affects your pictures and working mode. When the update came out there was a thread of people updating and posting their experiences and I seem to recall that one or two did have a problem. I would wait to be on the safe side unless you need the larger buffer space for the shoot. I am serious....and don't call me Shirley.
